Thoughts on Election Week; ...and the winner is...

AN ELECTION WEEK CHALLENGE TO BELIEVERS:
PRAY FOR THE NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS
PRAY WITH A FRIEND WITH WHOM YOU DISAGREE.
PRAY FOR GOD'S PEOPLE TO SHOW LOVE REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME.

If you would like to look at a passage online, go to: http://www.biblegateway.com/

1 John 5:3-5: This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

We have a new President. We also have new Senators, Congressmen, mayors, state representatives, and many other positions, and many of these have incumbents that won their races as well. All across the country, from living rooms and front yards to hotel ballrooms, "victory" speeches were given. But once again, these are temporary victories, with important, but temporary consequences. But...everyone born of God overcomes the world!

And this is an eternal victory!

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

We are called, by God, to take part in the everyday concerns of this world. But friends, we must not let temporary circumstances cause us anxiety or depression, for we are eternal victors. The battle belongs to the Lord and His victory is assured.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Cor. 4:18)

Questions:
1. What role does God play in your political thinking?
2. Can you see that you are part of something greater?
3. Will you pray for the winners, no matter who wins?

Order your soul;
reduce your wants;
live in charity;
associate in Christian community;
obey the laws;
trust in Providence.
