Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand. Mark 6:39-44
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you." Matthew 26:26-27

The Lord of the universe, He who had all creative power available to Him, "gave thanks" for a few fish, a little bread, and a cup of wine. And He wasn't just 'saying grace' to get it over with...everything Jesus ever did was genuine.
Should not we, who, at best make good use of the provisions God makes available to us, do any less? If Jesus Christ was genuinely thankful for even a small meal, how can we live as a saved people, people who have received eternal salvation, and not give thanks to God for every moment of every day?
