God is Bigger than the Boogie Man

For those of you familiar with classical music, you probably recognize today's title, taken from the VeggieTales song of the same name, in which Bob the tomato proclaims:

God is bigger than the boogie man

He's bigger than Godzilla, or the monsters on TV
Oh, God is bigger than the boogie man
And He's watching out for you and me.

While this is cute and funny, and aimed at childhood fears, the message is mighty and true.

Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (Matthew 16:17-18)

...and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

"It" is the church.

Remember, that the church is that entity that recognizes Christ as the Son of the living God.

Nothing, nothing (!) can overcome that church. If the gates of Hell itself were unleashed upon them, those that recognize the Son of the living God could not be overcome.

Who do you say He is?

Questions:

1. How is your anxiety level?
2. How do your problems compare to the "gates of Hades"?
3. Does your church teach the invincibility of the Christ?

"The branch of the vine does not worry, and toil, and rush here to seek for sunshine, and there to find rain. No; it rests in union and communion with the vine; and at the right time, and in the right way, is the right fruit found on it. Let us so abide in the Lord Jesus." Hudson Taylor
